Premium income from insurance activities

At 31 December 2016, premium income from non-life activities increased by 0.8% in a still highly competitive market and by 1.7% at constant scope and exchange rates. It represented 71% of the Group’s total premium income (91% of which is generated in France) versus 67% in 2015.

Premium income from life insurance activities decreased by 16.4% compared with 2015, in line with the Group’s strategy of keeping the life insurance business profitable in an environment marked by interest rate uncertainty.

The Covéa Group continues to grow in all business segments with, among other things, increases in the number of policies.

Individuals market

In a tense competitive environment, Covéa’s premium income rose 2% in the individuals market to €5,453 million.

The Group insures nearly 10.5 million private vehicles. In this segment, premium income rose by 1.4% to more than €3.6 billion.

Premium income from individual property and casualty insurance was up significantly by 3.1%. With a 17.3% market share in comprehensive home insurance, Covéa leads the industry with 7.8 million homes insured (nearly 80,000 additional homes insured in 2016, a 1% increase.

Professionals and Companies

Now the second largest insurer in this market, Covéa posted significant growth in its business of 2.7% and generated nearly €2.7 billion in premium income.
