APJ was founded by GMF in 1986 in order to meet the fundamental need of knowing one's rights and how to safeguard them, and then ensuring that they are respected.

The company is positioned on two types of legal protection:

• full guarantees and services covering litigation against private individuals,
• and collective agreements for the professional legal defense of local authorities and public institutions.

87,000 contracts were signed in 2008. With nearly 1 million individual policyholders, its portfolio grew by 2.5%. Gross premiums underwritten reached 89.2 million euros, for a net income of 13.4 million euros.

One major event was the takeover by APJ of the individual risk policies of MAAF Assurances.
